Copy Editor of Voices
Patrick Tong is a 16-year-old high-schooler from the quiet town of Lincolnshire near Chicago, and a member of Adlai E. Stevenson High School’s class of 2020. He is a second reader at Polyphony Lit and a Copy Editor for Voices. He initially learned about Polyphony Lit through his friend’s sister (shout out to fellow blogger Katie Lee).
Despite his immediate fascination with the editorial magazine, it took him two weeks to gather the courage to send an application email in late April this year. Part of this was his subconscious belief that every editor here was flawless and always knew exactly what to critique. By describing his struggles through Voices, he hopes to encourage more talented writers and readers to apply for a position as a first reader by removing the misconception that every editor is faultless.
At Adlai E. Stevenson High School, he participates in Peer Tutors, the Science Reach Club, National Honor Society, and WYSE/TEAMS competitions. On Sundays, he volunteers at the local Chinese school, teaching both English to the elderly as part of ESL (English as a Second Language) and speech to young kids enrolled in Toastmasters. Besides editing and writing, Patrick enjoys playing the piano, eating, listening to music, and playing tennis.
