Adriana Carter is a 17 year old student from Charleston, South Carolina and a member of the class of 2019 at Academic Magnet High School. She is currently a Second Reader at Polyphony Lit, and enjoys getting to edit pieces of writing in order to learn more about her own writing. Most of Adriana’s free time is spent reading and writing her own poetry, stories, and creative nonfiction, and she has been recognized nationally in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for her writing. In addition, she is also a member of the Adroit Journal’s summer mentorship program for 2018. In this program, she has had the opportunity to learn a lot about writing poetry from her peers and wonderful mentor, Rachel Mennies.
Adriana decided to join Polyphony LIT’s editing staff in late May 2018 so that she could learn more about writing from an editing standpoint and also use her own creative writing experience to provide thorough feedback to submissions. At her high school, Adriana is also the founder and president of the Creative Writing Club and on the school newspaper staff. She enjoys taking as many opportunities as she can to encourage other students to improve their writing skills.
Aside from writing, Adriana is also conducting research on drug delivery with glioblastomas at the Medical University of South Carolina and writing a senior thesis on her research.
